TROLLYWOOD SERIES - MODERN #2 - 2025-02-01

After the last report I wrote about Trollywood Legacy, I have had a Banned & Restricted announcement for this Modern tournament. Since Boros was such a big part of the meta and players in general were pretty tired of The One Ring, probably no one was particularly surprised that something would happen here. The cards that were banned were The One Ring, Amped Raptor and Jegantha, the Wellspring. Surprisingly enough we also got some surprising and long awaited Unbans. Mox Opal, Green Sun's Zenith, Faithless Looting and Splinter Twin are unbanned. It is precisely around Unbans that my focus will be in this report.

MOST PLAYED CARDS
Since ancient times it was known that Mox Opal & Faithless Looting were incredibly powerful cards in Modern. The question many asked at the beginning was "Wonder how long Moxen will be unbanned?" but some were surely scratching their heads wondering if Splinter Twin was even a playable card anymore. The community has been talking and speculating for a long time about when this card will be Unbanned... NOW the day had finally come.
The meta in this tournament was indeed a wide mix with everything from the more well-known Boros & Temur Breach to the most nostalgic decks that have always been there. I want to take the opportunity to tip my hat to those players who, through thick and thin, never let go of their so-called "Pet Deck". It doesn't matter how old it is or how good or bad the deck is in the current meta, it's always packed in the bag by their side. Temur Breach was, according to my expectations, a deck that would perform very well considering the high Winrate the deck actually has. However, something that was not on my radar was a final in this tournament between Humans & Splinter Twin. I'm not sure if the lack of Eldrazi Ramp & Boros in the meta for this tournament played a role. But regardless, I am completely convinced that everyone has had an incredibly fun day together with other participants and the Alara Games staff.
To sum this up in words from the players during the day, it felt like going back 10 years in time based on which decks were represented in this tournament. It was enjoyable to experience this variance throughout this day.
